The First Notes

My songwriting journey began long before I ever knew it would become my life’s work.

When I was a little girl, my dad and I would sit together making up silly jokes, rhymes, and limericks. We laughed until we cried over the most ridiculous ideas, and somewhere along the way, those little poems found melodies. Before we knew it, we weren’t just writing rhymes anymore—we were writing songs. We never looked back.

Those moments around the table became the foundation of everything I’ve created since. I learned to write music notation, but more importantly, I learned that songwriting is about capturing a feeling, telling a story, and sharing a piece of your heart.

I lost my dad when I was just 24 years old. He was my best friend, my songwriting partner, and a kindred spirit. Although he’s no longer here, I feel his presence in every song I write. Every lyric, every melody, and every composition carries a little of the joy we shared when it all began.

My dad also taught me to protect what I create. Because of him, I copyright every song I publish and carefully preserve the records. The growing stack of copyright certificates isn’t just paperwork—it’s a reminder of the lessons he passed on, the dreams we shared, and the legacy that continues every time I write another song.

Neither of us, sitting at that table laughing over a silly Paul Revere limerick, could have imagined where those afternoons would lead. Looking back now, I realize those moments weren’t simply childhood memories. They were the first notes of a lifelong journey—one that I’m grateful to continue with him in my heart.
