About Jen Hardy

I picked podcaster instead of expired. That decision changed everything.

In 2018, I was given a year to live.

My diaphragm was functioning at 20%. I had two progressive neuromuscular diseases — myasthenia gravis, diagnosed in 2013, and muscular dystrophy, diagnosed in 2017. The doctors were not unkind. They were simply honest. And what they were honest about was that I was running out of time.

I had seven children. Two of them were very small. And I refused.

I put a boom arm on my hospital table, set up a Rode NT-USB microphone, and became a podcaster. Not because I had a plan. Because I needed to pick a label before someone else finished picking one for me. I picked podcaster instead of expired. And that single decision — made from a bedroom I couldn’t leave, in a body that was working against me — gave me power, gave me purpose, and gave me another reason to keep breathing.

It is now 2026. I am still walking. Still recording. Still here.

That is the origin of Pick Your Label. And it is the lens through which I do everything.

What I Do

I am a podcaster, YouTube creator, recording artist, bestselling author, media entrepreneur, and founder of the Pick Your Label Movement.

My podcast, Fabulous Over 50, ranks in the top 2.5% globally. My YouTube channel, @theJenHardy, has grown to over 238,000 subscribers and earned a YouTube Silver Play Button. I am a bestselling author — Uncensored YouTube Hackshit number one on Amazon and held that position for 31 days. I own my own record label under Hardy House Media, write all my own lyrics, and release music on my own terms.

I founded the Power Up Creator Awards to recognize creators who don’t wait for permission.

I live on Hardy Island — a coastal home I moved my family to when the doctors gave me a year, because if I couldn’t stay, I wanted my kids to have the ocean. The salt air had other plans. I stabilized. I stayed. And Hardy Island became the place where everything I’ve built has grown.

What Pick Your Label Means

Most people are wearing labels they never chose.

Labels assigned by a diagnosis. A relationship. A decade of other people’s expectations. Labels that say too old, too sick, past your prime, not enough, expired.

Pick Your Label is the decision to look at those labels — really look at them — and choose something different. Not denial. Not pretending the hard things didn’t happen. Authorship. The decision that the hard thing does not get to be the final word on who you are.

We say pick deliberately. Not choose. When you choose something it feels permanent — a commitment you have to defend forever. When you pick something, you pick it like you pick something off a shelf. You try it. You wear it. And if it stops fitting, you pick something else tomorrow.

That’s the freedom inside this work.

I picked podcaster. Then author. Then creator. Then recording artist. Then coach. Every label chosen on purpose. Every one worn until it was time to add the next one.

You get to do the same thing.

The first step is a free 15-minute Label Audit. We identify what you’ve been carrying, where it came from, and what’s underneath it. Fifteen minutes is enough to see it clearly.
