The World’s Greatest Need is More People Like Anna

One of the kindest people I've ever met is Anna - she is filling the world's greatest need - more good people.

Hello Fabulous!

Here’s an episode of Fabulous Over Fifty that will leave you inspired, empowered, and maybe even reaching for a tissue or two. Hold onto your seats, because today we’re talking about none other than the marvelous Anna Russell, the recent recipient of our Good Human Guilt award!

Now, let me tell you, Anna is truly something special. This incredible woman has been married for a jaw-dropping 63 years and has a beautiful, bustling family. But guess what? Despite juggling numerous responsibilities, Anna still manages to find the time to bring joy and love into the lives of those around her. Through songs, emails, texts—she’s always there, spreading warmth like a radiant sunbeam.

If there’s one thing this fast-paced world needs more of, it’s people like Anna. She’s the embodiment of what the Fabulous Over Fifty community strives to be: a beacon of support, strength, and unwavering kindness. Anna reminds us that even in the midst of our own struggles, we can choose to uplift and embrace others. Anna comes from a family of powerful supporters, with her grandmother selflessly raising her sister’s children after her untimely passing. Understanding firsthand the importance of being there for those in need, Anna’s made it her mission to look out for the underdogs, the ones feeling left out or excluded. A childhood experience of not being invited to a college picnic left a lasting impression on Anna, fueling her commitment to reaching out to those who feel invisible.

Anna and her husband know a thing or two about opening their hearts and home too. With a remarkable 63 years of marriage under their belts, they’ve spent a mere two years without company. That’s right, folks, their home has been the epitome of welcome and warmth, shining as a safe haven for friends and family alike. Now that’s impressive!

As we near the end of this episode, we wrap up with a heartfelt message of love and gratitude, not only towards Anna but also towards all of you, our fabulous listener. The decision you made to do that [go out of your way for someone who needs it] for people is something that I wish everybody would do because if we were all doing that for each other, the world would be such a better place.

Anna Russell [00:02:49]:

Thank you. I come from a family of supporters. my mother’s mother had 7 children, and, her sister died and left. I think it was 4 kids. And, so she and her family took her hammers and nails and divided rooms and added rooms and She raised some of them. Others went to family members, because of the death in the family and, alcoholic father. And then, I’ve just always look for an underdog. You know why that is? One time, we were at a meeting of college students out on a lake. It was a picnic. And, they’re a group of women chatting, and I wasn’t, quote, invited. Maybe it was my responsibility to walk up to them. At any rate, I decided, never again, would I feel that way? And I always would go looking for the person who was left out and talk with them. And that made me happy, and I’d like to thank you. Help them. And then we have Always had our home open. 63 years of marriage, and we’ve had 2 years by ourselves. So if that gives you any idea,

Jen Hardy [00:04:39]:

You know, I’ve had some struggles over the last couple of years that I’ve known you and you have been there. And, yeah. And so I think the the decision you made to do that for people is something that I wish everybody would would do because if we were all doing that for each other, the world would be such a better place.

Anna Russell [00:04:55]:

Right. Right. Our own environment and that, the Caribbean away from us. Yeah.
