How To Look Fabulous Over 50: The No-Knife Guide

How to Look Fabulous Over 50: The no-knife guide

Hello, my age-defying darling! Welcome to the golden era of life where fabulousness flows freely, wisdom is worn like a crown, and age is more of a treasured badge than a number. After 50, it’s time to embrace our ‘fine wine’ status, aging with grace and, most importantly, without surgical shortcuts. So buckle up, ladies, as we embark on this ‘no-knife’ journey to looking and feeling fabulous at every age!

Radiate with Confidence

Let’s start with the best kept ‘non-surgical’ secret: confidence. The kind that makes heads turn and whispers follow you down the street. This confidence comes from within, nurtured by the acceptance of oneself – wrinkles, grey hairs, laugh lines, and all. So strut your stuff, flaunt your flair, and wear that ageless attitude with panache.

Be Kind to Your Skin

A skincare routine isn’t just for the vibrant 20s; it’s the trusty sidekick you need in your fabulous 50s. Retire your harsh products, opting for a gentle cleanser, a hydrating moisturizer, and, of course, a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Your skin will thank you by exuding a natural, youthful glow that no surgeon’s scalpel can replicate.

Stay Hydrated, Inside and Out

Yes, we’re looking at you, ladies who ‘forget’ to drink water. Hydration works wonders for your skin, giving it that dewy, youthful glow. Plus, staying hydrated keeps the energy levels high, and we know you need that for the dance-offs with your grandkids or those Saturday night salsa classes! Think of water as your body’s secret elixir, hydrating from within for that enviable glow.

Feed Your Fabulousness

They say you are what you eat, and in our 50s, we want to be a vibrant, healthy, and sizzling salad, not a greasy, lethargic burger. Include plenty of fruits, veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your diet, and watch your body respond with energy, vitality, and a youthful verve that no cosmetic procedure can bestow. Focus on foods rich in antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins. Think bright fruits, dark leafy veggies, fish, nuts, and don’t forget to treat yourself with some dark chocolate now and then!

Style it Up

Fashion doesn’t discriminate based on the number on your driver’s license. Play with styles, experiment with colors, and remember, your wardrobe should be a reflection of your vibrant personality. So, whether it’s those leopard print boots, a bold statement necklace, or that red lipstick, if it makes you feel fabulous – wear it!

Move That Body

Who said you need to be a gym junkie to be fit and fabulous? Incorporate activities you love into your routine – dancing, yoga, brisk walking, or gardening – and let your body thank you with improved mobility, a sharper mind, and a brighter mood. Not to mention, the natural endorphin boost is the closest thing to a non-surgical facelift!

Get Your Sweat On

No, we’re not suggesting you sign up for a marathon or deadlift twice your weight. But engaging in regular, moderate physical activity keeps your heart healthy, your body flexible, and your skin glowing. Dance, yoga, swimming, gardening – the options are endless. The secret is to choose something you love, so it doesn’t feel like a chore but a joyous celebration of what your body can do.

Embrace Your Beauty Sleep

Ever heard of beauty sleep? Well, it’s not just a phrase, but a powerful tool in your anti-aging arsenal. Aim for 7-9 hours of sweet slumber every night. It helps refresh your body and mind, and trust me, nothing beats the radiant glow of a good night’s sleep.

Nourish Your Skin

Invest in good skincare products. As our skin matures, it craves more nourishment. Opt for products filled with natural ingredients, antioxidants, and vitamins. Don’t forget your sunscreen – it’s not just for the beach but a daily essential to protect your skin.

Smile Your Way to Fabulousness

Last, but certainly not least, wear your smile like a crown. It’s the best natural remedy for fine lines, wrinkles, and any age-related worries. It adds a sparkle to your eyes and a youthful glow to your face.

There you have it! Aging fabulously isn’t about defying time, it’s about embracing it, with all its twists and turns. Remember, every laugh line is a testament to a joke well enjoyed, and every wrinkle is a bookmark in the story of your life. You’re not just over fifty; you’re fabulous over fifty. Keep shining, and let the world marvel at your radiance. Embracing every year can be an exciting adventure, and with this guide, we’re doing it in style – no knife required!

TRANSCRIPT for How to Look Fabulous Over 50: the no-knife guide

Jen Hardy [00:00:10]:

Welcome to the fabulous over 50 podcast. We’re here to uplift encourage and empower women to live their best lives. I’m your host, Jen Hardy, And today, we’re gonna do that by talking about looking fabulous, knife free, and no judgment if you’re into plastic surgery either. because the show is all about doing what makes you feel fabulous. So let’s get right to it. Hello. My age defying darlings. Welcome to the golden era of life where fabulous flows freely.

Jen Hardy [00:00:47]:

We wear wisdom like a crown, An age is more like a treasured badge than a number. And after fifty, it’s important to embrace our fine wine status. We’re aging with grace, and more importantly, without surgical shortcuts, unless, like I said before, if you’re into that sort of thing, and that’s okay. But even if you are, there’s other things we can do to enhance all different parts of this whole aging thing. So buckle up as we embark on this no knife journey to looking and feeling fabulous at every age. The first thing we’re gonna talk to, we need to start with this. It’s confidence. Okay? The best non surgical secret is confidence, the kind that makes heads turn and whispers follow you down the street.

Jen Hardy [00:01:40]:

This confidence comes from within you You’re gonna nurture it by accepting yourself, wrinkles, gray hair, white hair, laugh lines, all of it. You can strut your stuff, flaunt your flare, and wear your ageless attitude with panache. I’ve gotta say that since I started this show, I have pretty much changed how I present myself. And it has been the best change I’ve ever made. I’ve talked a lot about my glitter nail polish. I also have purchased body glitter. And can I tell you that when you’re looking, if you go to YouTube or whatever and you’re looking at these makeup shows and they show you, like, how to do make it for mature skin and how to whatever. They all say do not wear anything that shiny or metallic or glittery because it really shows those wrinkles.

Jen Hardy [00:02:37]:

But you know what I’m gonna say? I don’t like matte. I don’t like the matte flat thing. I like sparkles. I like shiny. I never used to do this as a kid. I was always or as an adult. I was always so self conscious. I didn’t want to stand out.

Jen Hardy [00:02:56]:

And now you know what? I am loving it. loving it. I feel so good when I put on pretty clothes. Got my little glitter going on. Got my fancy little nails, and I feel more confident. And because I feel more confident, I am presenting myself in a different way. And so you may think, Swarkles, no. I don’t like glitter.

Jen Hardy [00:03:18]:

I don’t want that’s fine. You can maybe you like pearls in sweater, or maybe you like a messy bun and yoga pants, or maybe you like polyester outfits and short hair and a perm and You know what? Rock that. Whatever it is that you are into. That’s what you should do, and that’s what’s gonna make you feel good. And that is honestly the number one part of looking fabulous, doing what you wanna do for yourself, looking your best. However, that is for you. Boom. Girl, that’s it.

Jen Hardy [00:03:55]:

None of the rest of this matters if you don’t have that. And You know, if you’re looking to get some help with that, reach out to me. You can email me jen@jennhardy.net or You can go to Jen at you can go, sorry, to the website, jennhardy.net slash contact. Contact me. Reach out because I would love to talk to you. And, also, we have the group. The group is open. The gold circle for everyone. [JOIN HERE]

Jen Hardy [00:04:24]:

I do have a mastermind for podcasters over 50, but the gold circle, think about it like this. When you’re on social media, you’re getting ads and you’re getting sponsored content, and you’re seeing all this stuff from people that call your themselves, your friends, but they’re not your friends. I have a group. It is on my website. It is private. I am not selling your information. I am not taking your information. I am not doing anything with you.

Jen Hardy [00:04:47]:

Your information. With you, yes. Your information. No. And you come and you join it’s $7 a month because I have to pay someone to help all the computer techie things behind the scenes. but $7 a month. I mean, even on a fixed income, people can afford that, and you can come and join us and be with a bunch of other women just like you. Isn’t that amazing? I just think it’s amazing.

Jen Hardy [00:05:12]:

I’m so excited. I have worked so hard to get this going. cannot wait for you to join. So you’re gonna reach out to me actually in the same way because you need an invitation, but all you have to do is ask for it. It so, again, email jen@genhardy.net or go to jenhardy.net/contact and say, hey, Jen. I want in And you’re in? That’s it. It’s that simple. Boom.

Jen Hardy [00:05:37]:

And that is going to help with the confidence because girl confidence is number 1. Number 2 is skin. Take care of your skin. Now if you’ve got the money and the tie and you’re into getting the fancy schmancy stuff that’s like 100 of dollars a bottle, go for it. Cause I can tell you from experience, that does make a difference. It’s not my experience because I can’t pay that right now. That’s not my choice. I’ve got 7 kids.

Jen Hardy [00:06:02]:

but my mom used to do this stuff and liter oh my gosh. And she would put it on. You could see, like, a visible change right away. But Even if you can’t do that, we’re going to the drugstore. Let me tell you what. Here’s a little side. I love playing the coupon game at CVS. It’s a store in the states, near me.

Jen Hardy [00:06:22]:

And, you know, their prices are super high, but you can do all kinds of things with coupons. I should have a show about that. just an episode because it is amazing. And I never pay I always get at least 50% off, usually 80% off every time I go there. because they have a game and I play it. And that’s how I get all my skin care stuff, because it makes a difference. And I used to have oily so I never wore lotion, even though everyone said you should use lotion, but I didn’t. But now I’m not so greasy anymore because my skin’s aging.

Jen Hardy [00:06:52]:

It’s getting drier and all that stuff. And it’s so important that we moisturize. Now, what if you are a natural person? You don’t wanna use any of that kind of stuff Guess what? Coconut oil. Mm-mm. I love it. I get a huge bottle from Costco for like $16. You can do all kinds of stuff with that. It’s amazing.

Jen Hardy [00:07:12]:

And you want a little scrub, take coconut oil, put a little salt in it, and use it for a little gentle exfoliation scrub. There you go. It’s done. You know what else you could do? Use coconut oil, and you can put coffee grounds in it, and it smells really good. And then it perks you up with the caffeine. You can rub that just very gently around your face because you don’t wanna scratch. And the back of your hands, it feels so good. Okay.

Jen Hardy [00:07:39]:

Now next thing you need to stay hydrated. Hydration is so, so important. So, you know, my kids have a job list. And every morning, the first thing on their job list is to fill a bottle with water. And that’s what they do. And then it’s done. So if you put that into your routine, you get up, you wash your face, you brush your teeth, you feel your water bottle. boom.

Jen Hardy [00:08:01]:

Then especially if it’s a bigger one, it’s like 24, 32 ounces. There’s a few glasses for you right there already done, and then you don’t have to think about it later. Okay? So the next thing is food. Feeding your fabulousness because they say you are what you eat. Okay? In in our fifties, sixties, nineties, 100, we want to be vibrant, healthy, and a sizzling salad. We don’t wanna be a greasy lethargic burger. Not that you don’t wanna eat one every once in a while, but you wanna have plenty of fruits and veggies and lean proteins and healthy fats. Don’t forget those healthy fats.

Jen Hardy [00:08:40]:

This whole anti fat thing is baloney. avocado, salmon, they have some really good things for you. Okay? And then your body’s gonna respond with some energy, vitality, and a youthful verve that no cosmetic procedure can be stowed. Because if you are not eating healthy, you’re not gonna have the energy that you need to exercise and get out there and live your life and feel fabulous. Okay? And don’t forget to treat yourself with some dark chocolate every now and then because It’s actually good for you how amazing is that. Now we talked about this before, but your style, okay, you it doesn’t need to reflect your age. You know, this whole thing with, you know, once you hit a certain age, you can’t wear this or you can’t wear that. Well, You know, there are some things where when people look at someone older wearing, I don’t know, a super short mini skirt with a crop top that’s super low, they might think hate.

Jen Hardy [00:09:37]:

you know, whatever. But if that is what you like, you rock it, whatever you like. And, you know, there’s a difference between trendy and style. You need to find your personal style. Your personal style is what’s gonna last for a long time. and then trends come and go. And, you know, you can enhance your style with some of the trends that come and go, but find out who you are. I have finally You know, I’ve I’ve followed a lot of different things.

Jen Hardy [00:10:09]:

I was super preppy when I was younger, lots of Ralph Lauren and eyes out and all that. And then I went full on punk. It was crazy. You should see the pictures. It was a lot. And then I kinda went mom and lots of mom. Just and not good mom clothes. I just went through this, focused on everybody else.

Jen Hardy [00:10:29]:

I don’t care what I look like. It doesn’t matter. And let me tell you what. It does matter. It does matter because how you present yourself and how people respond to that. It it it makes a difference in how you end up perceiving yourself. So it’s okay to take care of yourself. Alright? So we’ve got all that.

Jen Hardy [00:10:46]:

We also need to move our body. Okay? Now There are, oh my goodness, my husband’s grandma, when she was ninety 2, she was entering dance contests, she was modeling. She was doing all these wild things just because we’re getting older does not mean we have to stop. Okay? As long as we have breasts, we can do things. Now what if you’re not feeling well? What if you are ninety 2 and you’re not? able to go out dancing. That’s okay. You just need to move your body. If you can get yourself to a pool, That is so amazing.

Jen Hardy [00:11:26]:

It’s really good for your joints because it’s not rough on your joints. You can move I don’t know if you’ve seen some of these water exercise things, but, you know, you can set up your phone or a tablet in next to the pool. And now I have found This is amazing. These baggies, they’re two and a half gallon baggies. So they’re really big, and you can put a tablet in it. And then you can set that next to the pool, and you can watch the exercise and do it. If you can do that, that is my number 1. Number 2, walking.

Jen Hardy [00:11:57]:

Walk, walk, walk, Please don’t stop walking. My grandpa. Ninety four years old. It was actually my great grandpa. My grand my grandpa’s dad at 94 was up on a ladder painting his two story house. And everyone said, oh my gosh. You gotta get down What if you fall? And my thing was, what if you fall? What a way to go? You’re 94. You’re still up painting a two story house.

Jen Hardy [00:12:19]:

Like, give the man a break and let him do what he wants. and I’m gonna encourage you to do the same thing to let people tell you you can’t do things because you’re a certain age. Girl, you get out there and you do it and you move your body. However, you can move it And if you are bedridden, if you’re stuck in bed and you can’t do much, you know, what you can do, you can turn your head from side to side. You can slowly lift your arms up and down or your fingers up and down or legs up and down. You can twist from side to side. There are is always something you can do. So let’s keep it moving because remember, you stop moving, you stop being able to move.

Jen Hardy [00:12:53]:

We don’t want that. Okay? Now if you’re able, I want you to get your sweat on. And I’m not saying you sign up for a marathon or deadlift twice your wait, although maybe you can. Maybe you can do either one of those things. But regular, moderate activity. Okay? This is what we need. Now now that you’ve gotten your exercise, you’ve been out there, you’re doing all the things, You need to embrace your beauty sleep. We have heard from the time we were babies, you need your beauty sleep.

Jen Hardy [00:13:21]:

It is not just a phrase, but it is a huge tool in your anti aging arsenal. Okay? You’re gonna aim for 7 to 9 hours of sweet slumber every night. It’s gonna refresh your body. It’s gonna refresh your mind. And trust me, nothing beats the radiant glow of a good night’s sleep and nothing ages you, like those bags you get under your eyes from lack of sleep. And I can attest that today, Man, girl, I have those bags. I have those bags. Let me tell you.

Jen Hardy [00:13:53]:

I’m gonna tell you a personal thing right now. A week ago, My husband’s oxygen was delivered to the house because he’s not well. And for the rest of his life, he will be sleeping with oxygen. Probably should have it during the day. Long story short, the doctors around me are horrible and can’t even get him tested, but his oxygen’s averaging 88 at night going down to 77. And you don’t have to know a lot about medicine to know that’s bad. 94 it should be 95 and above. at the minimum.

Jen Hardy [00:14:27]:

So, anyway, so he’s got this oxygen, and I don’t know if you’ve ever heard An it’s it’s not the oxygen tanks. Although we have those as a backup, it’s this machine that takes room air and condenses the oxygen. And it is horrifically loud, and I’m having a hard time sleeping. But having him turn off that machine is not an option And neither is sleeping in another room. My husband are very close, so I’m trying to figure this out. If you’ve got a way for me to figure this out, I will love it. Email, jen@jennhardy.net. Please dear god.

Jen Hardy [00:15:03]:

Help me out. I’m struggling. Okay. So beautously important. I’m not getting it. I hope you are. Alright. Then the last thing, you’re going to smile your way to fabulousness.

Jen Hardy [00:15:17]:

You’re gonna wear that smile like a crown. Now what if your teeth aren’t so great? Well, it’s time to go get them fixed. Okay. Did you know that teeth, like, problems with your teeth, like cavities and stuff can actually affect your heart? So and it can affect all different things in your body. So you need to keep your teeth healthy. And, you know, I believe I’m a firm believer that everyone should have teeth. And if you’re missing a few teeth, I, if you like, it should just be a standard thing that we give you teeth because everyone needs them, and there’s some judgment there. If they’re missing, and I think it’s not fair.

Jen Hardy [00:15:55]:

And if I could start a foundation, honestly, it would be to give people teeth and hearing aids. Did you know that a lot of insurance don’t cover hearing aids? and for children. Don’t don’t get me started. Okay. That’s a thing for another day. But anyway, keep take care of your teeth and smile. I used to work at a hospital and I answered the phones. I started answering the phones.

Jen Hardy [00:16:17]:

I worked my way up, and it was really cool. But when I was answering the phones, they actually brought mirrors in to the the what did it call it? Oh my gosh. The operator. Oh my gosh. The room where the operators were. And they put a mirror in front of us. And they said, you know, they had done studies, not them, but other people had done studies that showed that if you smile, your voice sounds happier. Even if it’s a fake smile, your voice sounds happier, and you sound more pleasant.

Jen Hardy [00:16:45]:

So they brought mirrors in so that we could remember to smile when we’re talking to the people because, you know, when people are calling the doctor’s office, it’s usually kinda stressful and they wanted us to help them out. And so Something to just remember is that it the smile thing can kinda be a fake it till you make it where, you know, just practice. Now if I do a fake smile, comes out kinda creepy. I’m not gonna lie. My kids tell me to stop. So if you have a smile like that, like, I have a thing I’ll say it the nice way, resting witch face. There’s another word for it, but, I do. I just have that angry look all the time.

Jen Hardy [00:17:20]:

And so I I have to actively really try. And and if I fake smile, it’s creepy. So I have to think of happy things. And There are a lot of happy things to think about. Plus, then your genuinely smiling is a whole other thing. So let’s do that because it adds a sparkle to your eyes It adds a youthful glow to your face. And even if you’re not feeling that beautiful, you’d have an you haven’t got a lot of You haven’t got time to put your makeup on or do your hair or whatever. All it takes is a beautiful smile to attract people.

Jen Hardy [00:17:55]:

because everybody wants to be happier, right? And everybody wants to be around people that are happy. So a smile is the most beautiful thing you can put on. It really is, so we’re gonna end with that one. And, you know, aging fabulously, it’s not about defying time or anti aging everything. It’s about embracing where you are. Embrace the life you’ve lived with all of its twists and turns And remember, every laugh line is a testament to a joke well enjoyed, and every wrinkle is a bookmark in the story of your life. You’re not just over 50. You are fabulous over 50.

We want to celebrate our life every day. Happinessness makes you beautiful.
